Kim Dickens first appeared in the 1995 film Palookaville. Though she only played a minor role, she soon found herself getting more offers on the small screen. She guest starred on New York News, Spin City and Swift Justice, before landing the role of Sarah Day on the TV series Big Apple.
In 2004, Dickens joined the cast of Deadwood, where she played Joanie Stubbs from 2004 to 2006. When the HBO series concluded, she moved on to the role of Jonelle Shakespeare on the series 12 Miles of Bad Road, as well as Shelby Saracen on Friday Night Lights. At present, she stars as Janette Desautel on Treme.
Prior to becoming an actress, Dickens studied at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she took up Communications. She also pursued further studies at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and graduated at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
