Kevin Nealon was born on November 18, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri, but grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut. A marketing graduate from Sacred Heart University, he worked in many part-time jobs while performing stand-up comedy. He was first introduced to the national stage when he did a stand-up routine on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1984, and joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1986, as a featured performer. He became a full-time performer in 1987.

Nealon is known for his many characters, performed with a characteristic deadpan delivery. He was anchor of the show’s “Weekend Update” segment, where he was known for his catchphrase, “that’s news to me!” He also played other notable characters such as Mr. Subliminal, a former advertising executive who imbues his editorials with subliminal messages; and Franz, an Austrian jock who, along with his partner Hans (Dana Harvey), spoofed Arnold Schwarzenegger’s muscular body and accent. He was part of the show’s cast for nine seasons.

Nealon has also appeared in several comedy films, including Happy Gilmore, Anger Management, Little Nicky, The Wedding Singer, Daddy Day Care, Good Boy! and Grandma’s Boy. He also made guest appearances on 3rd Rock from the Sun, Dharma & Greg, The Norm Show and Three Sisters.

Some of his more notable recent roles include a recurring role on the sitcom Still Standing as Ted Halverson, the competitive and religious neighbor of the Millers, on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where he played himself, as a patient in a mental institution on the first season of Monk and as Doug Wilson on the Showtime series Weeds. Aside from recent films such as Get Smart and Don’t Mess with the Zohan, he has a supporting role on Weeds, playing councilman Doug Wilson.

Nealon has also written a book about his wife’s pregnancy, Yes, You’re Pregnant, But What About Me?, which was published in 2008.
