Biography

Scottish actor Kevin McKidd was born on August 9, 1973 in Elgin, Moray where he also grew up. He was a member of the Moray Youth Theatre where he honed his skills in acting at a young age. He initially wanted to become an engineer, enrolling at University of Edinburgh, but dropped out to enroll at Queen Margaret College and study drama. While in college he participated actively in theater productions, joining the University's student theater company, Bedlam Theatre.

Kevin McKidd earned his first professional acting role by appearing on the television series Father Ted. Since then, he became known for playing Tommy in the film adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting and as Malky Johnson in Small Faces. He later played the third husband of Mary Queen of Scots in the BBC mini-series Gunpowder, Treason & Plot. McKidd also had a role in the blockbuster movie Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott. In 2002, the actor was in the film adaptation of Nicholas Nickleby and voiced Jezz Torrent in GTA: Vice City. Later on, he was cast in the Neil Marshall horror film Dog Soldiers and got a role in the BBC drama The Virgin Queen. Other credits of his include the 4-part BBC2 series Looking After Jo Jo, as well as the HBO/BBC series Rome. His portrayal of soldier/politician Lucius Vorenus earned him critical acclaim, and he continued his career with a role in another series, NBC’s Journeyman. The sci-fi television show required him to play Dan Vasser, the lead character. Other roles of McKidd include those in 2004’s The Purifiers, in The Rocket Post, in the Silence of the Lambs prequel, Hannibal Rising, in 2007’s The Last Legion, in 2008’s Made of Honor, and in several episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. He has also signed on to play characters in Bunraku, Catwalk and Dylan.
