Biography

American actor and comedian Kenan Thompson was born on May 10, 1978 in Atlanta, Georgia to Fletcher and Elizabeth Ann Thompson. He got bitten by the acting bug at an early age, appearing on stage for the first time when he was five years old. He was in their school play The Gingerbread Man, which increased his interests in the performing arts. Early on, he became an entertainment reporter for CNN's "Real News for Kids,” and filmed his first movie, D2: The Mighty Ducks while attending Tri-Cities High School, a Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School.

In 1995, he was cast as Roy in Heavy Weights, before he reprised his role as Russ Tyler in D3: The Mighty Ducks. He followed it up with a role in the sitcom Sister, Sister, starring the Mowry twins. At that time, Kenan rose to fame for working on the sketch comedy show for Nickelodeon, All That. This led him to star on the movie Good Burger, based on a sketch of that series. He later got the role of Kenan Rockmore in the sitcom Kenan & Kel, which ran from 1996 to 2000. His character appeared on another Nickelodeon show, Cousin Skeeter in 1999. Thompson has also been seen on The Steve Harvey Show, together with his co-star Kel Mitchell.

In 2000, Kenan had a role in The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and was later given a recurring part on Felicity. The next year, he was seen on the film Big Fat Liar, continuing his career with performances in The Master of Disguise, Are We There Yet?, My Boss’ Daughter, Love Don’t Cost A Thing and Public Lightning. He gained more attention for playing the title role in Fat Albert in 2004. He also joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, first as a featured player in 2003 and as a repertory player in 2005.

While gaining fame on SNL, Thompson was cast on Snakes on a Plane. Later on, he voiced characters in Crank Yankers, Nickelodeon’s The Mighty B!, and 2008’s Space Chimps. He has also been given the voice role for Sue Sezno in the series Sit Down, Shut Up.
