Born on November 25, 1986 in Los Angeles, California, Katie Cassidy is actress who is best known for her role as the demon Ruby in the hit series Supernatural, which stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. The daughter of '70s pop idol David Cassidy and former model Sherry Benedon, she grew up in Calabasas, California with her mother and stepfather, Richard Benedon, an ER physician.
As a child, Cassidy developed a fondness for show business. She started out as a cheerleader for the California Flyers but soon found herself in community theater, and later, under the training of a well-respected acting coach. In 2002, she released a single called "I Think I Love You". She also did some modeling, which concluded with a campaign ad for Abercrombie and Fitch in 2004.
Although Cassidy initially planned on attending NYU's Tisch School of Performing Arts, she moved to Los Angeles instead where she landed several gigs on popular Hollywood TV shows, including a recurring role as Zoe on 7th Heaven. She then guest-starred in the one-hour drama Sex, Love & Secrets, but the series was canceled after a few episodes. More move roles came her way, including The Lost as Dee Dee, When a Stranger Calls as Tiffany Madison, Click as 27-year-old Samantha Newman, Walk the Talk as Jessie, You Are Here as Apple, and Taken as Amanda. She also starred in another horror remake of the murderous Christmas classic Black Christmas.
In 2009, Cassidy was cast as Trish Wellington, the bride-to-be on Harper’s Island, a CBS series about a group of family and friends who travel for a destination wedding to an island famous for a streak of unsolved murders. She also bagged the role of Ella Simms in the 2009 reboot of 90s teen series Melrose Place on the CW.
