Katara is the 14-year old sole remaining Waterbender of the Southern Water Tribe in the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. She is the sister of Sokka . She depicts a character that is mature, responsible and often looks out for the wellbeing of others. In addition, she is very forgiving. Previously, she was willing to heal Zuko of his facial scar, despite their complicated history of conflict. Although she is naturally kind in nature, she has a temper which, when combined with her skills, can be very destructive.
Katara's name comes from the Spanish word, Catarata, which means a downpour of water or a waterfall. This is a reference to her waterbending abilities.
Katara is the only waterbender in the south pole.
Katara's necklace belonged to her mother and her grandmother.
