Joy Bryant began her career as a model, when she was discovered while she was a student at Yale University. She pursued a modeling career for four years, during which she signed an exclusive contract with Tommy Hilfiger. She made her screen debut in 2001, in the one-off MTV drama Carmen: A Hip Hopera; the following year, she made her film debut in Kite.
Bryant broke out with her performance in the 2002 film Antwone Fisher, which starred Denzel Washington. From there, she took roles in films such as How To Get The Man’s Foot Outta Your Ass, Get Rich or Die Tryin’ and Bobby, which was nominated for a Golden Globe. She held recurring roles in ER and Love Bites, and also starred in the Fox sci-fi pilot Virtuality. She currently stars in the NBC drama Parenthood.
