Josh Johnson became known as a contestant in season two of the HGTV reality series Design Star. A native of Hendersonville, Tennessee, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He says that a designer’s best friend is a magnetic attitude and a stylish eye, and that his design style boils down to functional opulence and livable elegance. Amongst his favorite design styles are contemporary or transitional glamour, neoclassic, and Southern romance.
He believes that a good designer makes each of his designs shine, and that one should always listen to a client’s desires. He also admires Versace as his favorite designer. Johnson has said that if he weren’t working as a designer, he’d be working as a dancer for Solid Gold. His favorite room to design is a master bedroom retreat, and he dreams of designing Beyonce’s closet. If he wins the contest, he intends to create custom design projects for well-known celebrities. In his spare time, he also sings and writes songs, and also once worked as a probation officer in the past.
On the series Design Star, he won one challenge and scored high in others, but he was ultimately eliminated on episode 4 of the show. He has since returned to his hometown and continued to pursue his career in design.
