Biography

Joseph Scarola appears as one of the competing fighters in the Spike TV network’s mixed martial arts contest reality series The Ultimate Fighter: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra. He is 28 years old, and has an MMA record of 6-0-0. Scarola is a native of East Meadow, NY, and he has also trained extensively in his own hometown. He doesn’t particularly mind residing and improving his skills for a month and a half in Las Vegas, since he’ll be accompanied by a few training instructors he’s already well-acquainted with. Among these are Matt Serra, Ray Longo, and Pete “Drago” Sell.

Scarola first stepped into the world of mixed martial arts when he was very young, as he started out with karate lessons when he was just five years old. He studied then graduated from East Meadow High School back in 1997, then subsequently trained under Serra, who taught him the methods of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. By the year 2005, he became Serra’s first-ever student to earn a black belt in the fighting style. And while Scarola has had a long history of trusting in Serra’s instruction, he says he’s still willing to learn from any coach as well as his fellow fighters.
