Jonathan Michael Murphy was born on August 3, 1981 in Arlington, Texas. His mother worked as an office manager at a dental office and his father as a fire chef. Because of his father’s work, Jonathan Murphy grew up in a house with a fire pole which he considered one of the highlights of his childhood. His interest in acting started when he was in high school, when he performed in his school’s theater productions. After graduating, he continued his acting in community theaters. Fort Worth's Famous Casa Manana Theatre is one of the theaters in greater Dallas/Fort Worth area, where Jonathan Murphy has performed. At the age of 20, he was discovered by his former manager Craig Wargo while participating in the Model and Talent Search of Texas. He was currently studying at Texas Christian University then, but decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. Since then, Murphy has successfully landed roles on various television series. Aside from acting, Murphy also spends time working with charities such as the Frank Sinatra Foundation, the American Red Cross and Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure. He is also a member and co-founder of Noah Wylie's Blank Theatre Company in Los Angeles.
Jonathan Murphy has also appeared for five episodes on ABC’s 60-minute television series Wildfire, playing the role of Calvin Handley. His other projects include Broken Windows and Ready or Not. He has also made television appearances on Ghost Whisperer, Cold Case, Crossing Jordan, Judging Amy and Without a Trace. Murphy is best known for his role as Ronny Garrett on ABC’s hit TV series October Road. His character is the brother of the show’s lead character, Nick Garrett (Bryan Greenberg). Murphy followed this up with roles in Life on Mars, and has been seen on episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful, American Dreams, The Comeback, and the dramatic crime film Mini’s First Time.
