Biography

American actress Joey Lauren Adams was born on January 9, 1968 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She moved to Hollywood in 1988 and started her film career. She appeared in several television series like Top of the Heap in 1991, Vinnie & Bobby in 1992 and was also in 1993’s movie Coneheads.

Joey Lauren Adams got her breakthrough role playing Simone Kerr in Dazed and Confused. She was also credited as Joey Adams in the action drama The Program, as well as appearing in The Pros & Cons of Breathing in 1994. She continued having minor roles in films. She played Monica Dice in S.F.W. and Whitney in Strange Habit. Her first Kevin Smith film was 1995’s Mallrats, where she palyed Gwen Turner. In 1996, she was cast in Bio-Dome and Michael, before landing her prominent role in 1997’s Chasing Amy. Her role as Alyssa Jones, a lesbian who falls for a man, gained her a lot of attention, and she earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture—Comedy/Musical. In 1998, she was given the role of Beth Ward in A Cool Dry Place and was cast the next year in Big Daddy with Adam Sandler.

She then appeared in smaller films Beautiful and In the Shadows, before reprising her role as Alyssa Jones in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in 2001. She also lent her voice to the same character in Clerks: The Lost Scene, in the special features of the Clerks DVD. Adams was also in Beeper and The Big Empty, while starring in other TV shows and movies like Stripperella and Remembering Charlie. She was also a guest star on the series Veronica Mars, portraying the character Geena Stafford. In 2006, she released her directorial debut, Come Early Morning.
