Joe Armstrong was born October 7, 1978 in London. He has two brothers, Dan and Tom, and their father is the veteran stage and screen actor, Alun Armstrong. Joe Armstrong went to Elliot School in Putney from 1993-1997 before proceeding to Bristol University. During his Bristol days, Armstrong took part in several Bristol University and National Youth Theatre productions before going on to perform at the Soho and Bush Theaters in London. He guest starred on several television series including Midsomer Murders, Blackpool and The Bill before being cast in his most recognizable role to date, as Alan-A-Dale on Robin Hood.
Alan-A-Dale, played by Joe Armstrong on Robin Hood, is the resident teller of tall tales among Robin’s band of merry men. He is an expert archer, second only to Robin, but he is also equally gifted at embellishing stories and concocting outlandish tales to bail himself out of trouble. He is a pathological liar and an impressive con artist with a quick wit and sardonic sense of humor.
