Jesse McCartney was born on April 9, 1987 in Ardsley, New York. As a child, Jesse became immediately interested in both acting and singing, performing in local community musicals by age seven, and advancing his talents so far that he joined the national tour of The King and I when he was 10. McCartney and his family chose to move to Los Angeles when he was 11 to pursue his chances at becoming an actor and singer. Jesse landed several roles, including playing The Who's Roger Daltrey in A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden, and later, from 1998–2001, snagging a recurring role as Adam Chandler, Jr. on the soap opera All My Children, which Jesse earned a Daytime Emmy nomination.
In 1999, McCartney became the youngest member of the pop boy band Dream Street, with whom he stayed until 2002. He also starred in the television series Summerland, but the show only lasted two seasons.
McCartney began his efforts at a solo career with an EP in 2003, and later released his first solo album, Beautiful Soul, in 2004, which went platinum with over 5 million copies sold. In 2006 McCartney followed up with Right Where You Want Me, and in 2008 with Departure, including the hit single “Leavin’.” McCartney is also credited with co-writing Leona Lewis’s smash hit of 2008, “Bleeding Love,” and has made several cameo acting appearances, including roles on Law & Order (2000), The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2005), and Hannah Montana (2007).
McCartney has been trying to shake his teen-idol image with more risky and mature career choices. In late 2008 he announced that he would be playing a murder suspect on the TV crime drama “Law and Order: SVU.” But he’s not afraid of alienating his loyal fans, and has said he believes his fans will be happy to follow him on his ride from child star to serious actor and musician.
