Jesse McCartney was born on April 9, 1987 in Ardsley, New York. He immediately became interested in both acting and singing, performing in local community musicals by age seven, and advancing his talents so far that he joined the national tour of The King and I when he was 10. McCartney and his family chose to move to Los Angeles when he was 11 to pursue his chances at becoming an actor and singer.
Upon entering show business, Jesse McCartney landed several roles, including playing The Who's Roger Daltrey in A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden, and later, from 1998–2001, snagging a recurring role as Adam Chandler, Jr. on the soap opera All My Children, which earned him several nominations.
In 1999, McCartney became the youngest member of the pop boy band Dream Street, with whom he stayed until 2002. He also starred in the television series Summerland, but the show only lasted two seasons.
McCartney started his solo career with an EP in 2003, and later released his first solo album, Beautiful Soul, in 2004, which went platinum with over 5 million copies sold.
McCartney has been trying to shake his teen-idol image with more risky and mature career choices. In late 2008, he announced that he would be playing a murder suspect on the TV crime drama Law and Order: SVU. He was then cast as Andy on the ABC Family series Greek and as Dick Grayson on the series Young Justice.
