Jesse Birdsall was born February 13, 1963 in Highbury, London. Birdsall came to popularity for his roles as Nicholas Beckett on the series Bugs from 1995-1999 and subsequently, as Ron Gregory from 2002-2003 on The Bill. He has also become a regular on the third and fourth series of Footballers’ Wives where he plays the character, Roger Webb. Birdsall is married to actress Gwyneth Strong with whom he has two children. Birdsall has had his share of scrapes with the law. In 1999, he was fined £1000 and narrowly escaped jailtime for an unprovoked attack on a patron at an East End pub in London. He had previously been convicted of inflicting bodily harm during an altercation back in 1981.
Roger Webb, played by Jesse Birdsall on Footballers’ Wives, was the star top-flight player for Nottingham Forest in his twenties before becoming a player/manager and eventually, full time manager. He is a hard-driving force whose no-nonsense style of managing often intimidates his younger players.
