Jerry Trainor was born on January 21, 1977, and his original birth name was Gerald William Trainor. His mother works as a calculus teacher at his alma mater, the University of San Diego High School, which is now known as Cathedral Catholic High School. It was there that he developed a fondness for the theatre, since he got actively involved in the school’s drama program.
Jerry Trainor’s first role on television was on the MTV series Undressed. He followed this up with a bit role in the cult film Donnie Darko, before he continued appearing on the small screen. Trainor was next seen on Fox’s Malcolm in the Middle and on Boston Public. In 2001, he was cast in Evolution as Tommy, and he later booked a guest role on the comedy My Wife and Kids. His next projects were starring on an Angel episode as Jared, and on ER as Darius. Trainor was later seen on Wrong Hollywood Number in 2003, and on the direct-to-video sequel, Bring It On Again.
Trainor later took on a recurring role in Crossing Jordan, and has starred on several episodes of Nickelodeon’s Drake and Josh as Crazy Steve. In 2007, he obtained a small role in Pieces of Dolores, before he joined the cast of the Nickelodeon TV sitcom iCarly. His character is that of Spencer Shay, the older brother of the title character. While he has a reputation as an eccentric artist, he exhibits relatively normal behavior. Spencer is also Carly’s legal guardian, while their father continues to render service as a soldier of the military and the armed forces. He has an outgoing personality, with a tendency to muse out loud or blurt out an idea the moment it strikes him. Spencer was originally studying to become a lawyer, yet dropped out of law school in order to pursue a career in art instead.
In 2008, Trainor signed on for roles in Waking Dreams and has been slated to reprise his role as Crazy Steve in Drake & Josh in New York!
