Jason O'Mara aspired to become a professional rugby player, although his injuries forced him to consider acting. Upon graduating with a drama degree at the Trinity College in Dublin, he began working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and appeared in several stage productions both in Dublin and London. He later appeared in several British television shows such as The Bill and Monarch of the Glen.
O'Mara's earliest appearance on American television came with the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, which led to roles in the short-lived shows The Agency and In Justice. After a recurring stint on Men in Trees, he was offered the lead role in ABC's remake of the BBC series Life on Mars, which didn't last beyond one season. He currently stars in the Steven Spielberg-produced Fox series Terra Nova.
O'Mara is married to actress Paige Turco, with whom he has one child.
