Irish actor Jason O’Mara was born on August 6, 1972 in Sandycove, located in Dublin, Ireland. He was educated at Trinity College, and later graduated with a degree in drama. Afterwards, he decided to move to London to pursue an acting career. He later joined the British Repertory Theater during his stay, earning him numerous roles in some of Britain and Ireland’s great theaters. Some of his noted performances were in the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Almeida Theater, London’s West End and the Gate Theatre. He has been a familiar face on BBC and ITV, but he moved to Hollywood in 2002 to expand his audience. His theater credits include roles in productions of The Jew of Malta, Popcorn, and Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Irish Theatre Awards, due to his portrayal in the Neil LaBute play Bash.
Jason O’Mara began his acting career with roles in Summertime, Space Truckers, Soldier Soldier, Peak Practice, the miniseries Berkeley Square and two episodes of Unfinished Business. He later joined the cast of many TV series, and he played notable roles on Reach for the Moon, The Bill, Playing the Field, Monarch of the Glen and High Stakes. In 2001, he made his television debut in the US by taking on the part of Lt. Thomas Meehan on Steven Spielberg’s HBO series, Band of Brothers. O’Mara followed this up by playing Daryl Von Horne on the TV pilot Eastwick for FOX which wasn't picked up. He then chose the role of A. B. Stiles on CBS' The Agency. It was there that he met co-star Paige Turco, they got married in 2003 hand have a son. After CBS canceled The Agency, Jason had some guest starring roles on CSI: Miami, The Closer and Criminal Minds. Jason began working with ABC and starred in the pilot Countdown, ABC was so impressed with him that they signed him to a talent holding deal, from that he starred in two other pilots for ABC Drift and Marlowe, as well as In Justice which went to series for 13 episodes. His next project brought him to the big screen in Resident Evil: Extinction. O’Mara had a recurring role on Men in Trees. He guest starred in 2 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. He was cast in Life on Mars as Detective Sam Tyler which will begin airing in fall 2008.
