Biography

Jack Davenport was born on March 1, 1973 to parents Nigel Davenport and Maria Aitken, who divorced when Jack was seven. He is an actor best known for his role on the CBS series Swingtown. English-born Davenport spent the first seven years of his life in Ibiza, Spain. His uncle Jonathan Aitken is a writer and politician, while his maternal great-grandfather was the first Baron Rugby. After finishing his studies in the Dragon School, he went on to Cheltenham College where he discovered his interest in acting. He was discovered by a director from Clwyd Theatr Cymru while he was on a summer drama course and was later asked by the director if Davenport could work for him. He is married to actress Michelle Gomez.

At the age of eighteen, Davenport performed on stage in Wales, where he became friends with Rhys Ifans. He went back to school, this time at University of East Anglia where he took up film studies and English literature. The first major production Davenport participated in was Fierce Creatures, where he played a student zookeeper. He was later found by an agent who cast him for the role of Miles Stewart in the BBC series This Life. A string of projects then followed and among them were appearances on The Talented Mr. Ripley, Coupling, and Ultraviolet. He was also given roles for the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and its sequels, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

Davenport also did a lot of voice acting, including narrating the audio versions of John Buchan’s The Thirty-Nine Steps and recorded parts in Anthony Burgees’ A Clockwork Orange. His voice is also behind the very popular MasterCard advertisements. In 2009, he was cast on the series FlashForward. When it was cancelled, he moved on to appear in The Key Man and the show Smash.
