Gretchen Egolf, who grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, started acting at a very young age, participating in theater performances. She immediately attended the Juilliard School for drama in New York after graduating high school and found her home in New York and Los Angeles, where she lived and worked ever since. She then appeared in numerous Broadway, off-Broadway and West End theater productions before she starred in television series such as Martial Law where she became a series regular.
Later on, Gretchen Egolf became a recurring character on the WB series Roswell. She soon worked on the CBS movie Gleason, working alongside Brad Garrett. Many of her credits include guest roles on several shows. In 1997, she was seen on Cracker, and in 1999 she managed to obtain a role in The Talented Mr. Ripley. In 2001, she worked on Nicolas before appearing on an episode of A Nero Wolfe Mystery. The next year, Egolf landed a part on Law & Order as Sherri Rosatti in the episode “Hitman.” After a role in the series Without a Trace, Egolf played a romantic newlywed in the TV production, The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie. In 2006, she booked the role of Bridget in the film East Broadway. Also that year, she was cast as Astrid in the film adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri’s novel, The Namesake.
In 2007, Gretchen Egolf joined the cast of the NBC series Journeyman. Her character is that of Katie Vasser, the wife of the lead character’s brother. The series followed the adventures of one man as he gets between his past and current love, and how he deals with traveling through time and effecting change in people's lives. However, it was cancelled in December 2007 due to low ratings. Since then, Egolf moved on to other projects. The following year, she landed a part in Medium, and was next seen on Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service. After a role in the series Knight Rider, she was cast in the TV production of Killing Mr. Kissel.
