Born on November 16, 1977 in Perth, Australia, Gigi Edgley is an actress who was bitten by the showbiz bug at an early age. She had already performed in and out of school, due to her parents’ involvement in the entertainment industry. Her father is Michael Edgley, a famous concert and circus promoter, while her mother, Jeni Edgley, is a former Miss Australia. Gigi was mainly concerned with ballet, jazz and character dance, but got interested in acting when she first performed in theater. It was at the Twelfth Night Theatre where she made her debut. Edgley earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama at the Queensland University of Technology in 1998. She is also a believer in the school of method acting, and boasts of a broad range of skills. She proficient in ballet, martial arts, singing, jazz, and character dance, but is especially noted for her abilities in fire-twirling.
Gigi Edgley worked on several independent productions before she rose to prominence in her role as Chiana on the science fiction series Farscape. She was originally hired for one episode, but the directors decided to keep her for more. When season 2 began, she was promoted as a regular on the show. Chiana is a thief, liar and drama queen, and has appeared on more than 50 episodes of the series. Edgley was also on the popular Australian series Water Rats, and the Australian film known as The Day of the Roses. She was soon accepting more guest roles on television, like playing Pakim in the popular series The Lost World. She had two guest starring role in BeastMaster. She soon undertook independent and feature film work, and read a starring role in an audio drama for Seeing Ear Theatre. After Farscape was cancelled, Edgley took on other projects like BlackJack with Colin Friels and other popular Australian shows like The Secret Life of Us and Stingers. She was once again seen as Chiana on the Farscape miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars. In 2006, Edgley was cast as the female lead in the critically acclaimed drama Last Train to Freo. This earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Lead Role, by the Film Critics Circle of Australia. The next year, she landed a supporting role in the USA Network’s miniseries The Starter Wife. She soon made an appearance in Newcastle and Systolic, both in 2008. Gigi Edgley has also developed a steady career in music, recording with Seattle-based artist and producer Kyle Stevens.
