Canadian stand-up comedian Gerry Dee is one of the top 10 contestants appearing in season five of the NBC reality talent show Last Comic Standing, as well as having made an appearance during season four. When he was asked what he felt about learning that he was in the lineup of finalists, he answered, “Relief. Excitement and relief. Relief is definitely the key word.” He is a first-generation Canadian, though the rest of his entire family was born in Glasgow, Scotland – a fact he refers to during his routine, jokingly stating that Scottish people hate everyone.
Dee was also an active hockey player and golfer during his college years, and he frequently qualifies at both the United States and Canadian Amateur Championships. After working for nine years as a schoolteacher, he changed his career path in 2003 to stand-up comedian and began doing comedy full-time. He has also appeared on television productions such as Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and The Late Late Show. He also starred in the Canadian feature film Trailer Park Boys – The Movie. Dee will also be appearing for the third time at the Just For Laughs comedy festival held every year in Montreal, which is considered the world’s largest comedy event.
