Frangela

Biography

Los Angeles-based comedy duo Frangela is composed of Frances Callier and Angela V. Shelton from The Second City troupe. The two of them have been regularly appearing on VH1’s weekly news review, the hilarious Best Week Ever. They were also heard on the NPR radio show Day to Day, as well as the Fox News late night show called Red Eye with Greg Gutfield. In addition, Frangela has their own show on KTLK known as The Week According to Frangela, which airs every Saturday at 5pm for two hours. The two of them have also appeared in the big-screen comedy He’s Just Not That Into You, which hit theaters in 2009.

Separately, the duo has had quite a career in the business. Frances Callier is best known for playing the bodyguard Roxy in the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana. She has starred on numerous other series as well. Callier had roles in According to Jim, My Name is Earl, Frasier, and even Curb Your Enthusiasm. She also filled in for another actress on a single episode of Nickelodeon’s Drake and Josh.

Meanwhile, Angela V. Shelton has established herself as a voice character. She has lent her voice to the video games for Spider Man 2, Ultimate Spider Man, Superman and Reservoir Dogs. As an actress, she has been seen on programs like Mr. Show with Bob and David as well as The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

Shelton and Callier were introduced to each other in Chicago, later becoming Frangela and creating the animated series Hey Monie!, which aired on BET. They next worked on the series 3 Non-Blondes and continued to perform stand-up comedy side by side.

In March of 2008, Frangela was brought to the Stephanie Miller Show at the last minute, in order to replace Elayne Boosler. This led to their popularity, earning them a spot on the program once every week. Their segment came to be known as “Fridays with Frangela.”

The next year, the comedic pair was taken to the jungles of Costa Rica. It was in June of 2009 when they took part in the reality TV competition I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here for NBC. Shelton was eliminated on the fourth day and Callier left on day eight.
