Faina Savich was a top 20 finalist on the third season of the Fox dance contest reality series So You Think You Can Dance. She claims to have a secret Russian nickname that she’s trying to get rid of, and that it has no possible translation. Faina began dancing at the age of nine, starting out with Russian folk dancing, which she says is the inevitable yet fun destiny of any child studying dance in Russia. She also studied Latin and ballroom dancing at the age of 11, though she continued with Latin only when she moved to the United States. She says that she’s also practiced at least two months of hip-hop dance.
She classifies her dance style as Latin ballroom, and apart from dancing, also practices a number of other hobbies. Among these are yoga (which she calls ‘amazing’), and opera singing in the shower, and she jokingly hinted at other talents yet to be revealed in the future. Her favorite professional dancers are her fellow Russians Mikhail Baryshnikov and Maya Plisetskaya, and she also admires Latin dancer Carmen Vincelj. Faina has performed several times in public functions and musical theater as a dancer, and she plans to try out as many different dancing styles as she can. She was voted off from the show on June 21, 2007.Exclusive Interview: Faina Savich
