Born on May 12, 1962 in New York, New York, Emilio Estevez is an actor, director and writer best known for his membership in the acting Brat Pack, which appeared in the movies The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire, among others. The son of actor Martin Sheen and artist Janet Templeton, he is the brother of another actor Charlie Sheen. He once attended the public school system of New York but soon transferred to a prestigious private academy after his father’s acting career took off. Growing up, he and his high school friends, along with Charlie, would make short films, which Estevez wrote. He would later marry singer-choreographer Paula Abdul.
Emilio Estevez’s film debut was supposed to be in Francis Ford Coppola’s, Apocalypse Now, starring his father Martin Sheen, but his scenes were deleted during editing. He appeared in a short film produced at his high school called Meet Mr. Bomb. Meanwhile, he made his stage debut in Mister Roberts in a theater in Jupiter, Florida.
During the 1980s, Emilio Estevez was perceived to be the leader of this group of young actors called the Brat Pack. It was established by him and Rob Lowe during the first Brat Pack movie called The Outsiders. They were joined by other young actors, four of which co-starred with Estevez in the '80s classic The Breakfast Club, then later on in Young Guns and St. Elmo’s Fire. His other screen credits include Repo Man, Stakeout, and Maximum Overdrive.
After the Brat Pack films, Estevez starred in The Mighty Ducks as a successful lawyer who is forced into coaching a hockey team as a form of community service. The film was so successful that it led to two sequels. Besides acting, Estevez has also tried directing, with episodes of the television series Cold Case, Close to Home, The Guardian, and CSI: NY. As for films, his directorial jobs include Wisdom, Men at Work, The War at Home, and Bobby.
