Ella Smith is a Welsh actress who was born on June 6, 1983. She got her acting education at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She is also a member of the National Youth Theatre. While studying drama, she won the Carleton Hobbs Award. Since then, she has performed in a variety of productions, notably in more than 15 with the BBC Radio.
In 2006, Ella Smith made her debut in television. She appeared in an episode of the BBC drama titled Holby City, portraying the character Vanessa Robinson. The medical drama also starred Amanda Mealing, Paul Bradley, Hugh Quarshie, Hari Dhillon, Sharon D. Clarke and Luke Roberts. Ella Smith soon appeared on the series Strictly Confidential, an ITV drama written by Kay Mellor. Smith played the character Tanya Melton, allowing her to work with Suranne Jones. That year, she also made her stage debut. Smith acted in the play The Pocket Orchestra, shown at the Trafalgar Studios in London. Her stage work also includes playing the title character in the 2008 UK premiere of the play Fat Pig, by Neil LaBute. After her work in Strictly Confidential, Ella Smith landed the role of Jezebel Ogilvie in the series Meadowlands. Her character was the daughter of Brenda Ogilvie, played by Melanie Hill. Known as Cape Wrath in the UK, Meadowlands also starred David Morrisey, Lucy Cohu, Felicity Jones, Sian Brooke, Ralph Brown, and Emma Davies. Ella Smith was next seen performing on the sitcom Sold! It starred Kris Marshall, and enabled Smith to play the character of Phoebe. Other than acting, Smith has also ventured in the field of music. Originally wanting to be an opera singer, she attended the Junior Guildhall Music Course, as well as the National Youth Choir. She has also signed on to work on the comedy Good Arrows, directed by renowned author Irvine Welsh.
