Born on December 25, 1982 in New York, Eliza Orlins spent her childhood in New York City and China. When she was four years old, her parents took her to Beijing, where they adopted her sister, Sabrina. A little over a year later, her youngest sister, Emily was born. The family then moved to Hong Kong, where Eliza spent two years at Hong Kong International School. Soon, the family headed back to New York and moved to Washington, D.C. in 1995. In 2001, she graduated from Sidwell Friends School where she ran varsity track and cross country. She also completed the Marine Corps Marathon with the AIDS Marathon Training Program her junior year. Aside from being active in sports, she also wrote for the school newspaper and was the assistant director for a spring musical.
Eliza then entered Syracuse University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in international relations and political science in 2005. While at the university, she made it into the Dean's List and was a Dean's Scholar. Currently, Eliza is a junior at Fordham University School of Law and intends to graduate with her J.D. in December of 2008. While there, she engages in various school activities. She enjoys committing herself to several organizations such as Brendan Moore Trial Advocates (Fordham's Mock Trial Team), where she is the Co-Intraschool Editor, the Urban Law Journal where she is the Co-Symposium Editor and the Fordham Law Democrats, where she is President.
Aside from her extracurricular activities, Eliza also worked for the Legal Aid Society's criminal defense division, Onondaga County District Attorney's Office, a large New York law firm, and interned for a New York Supreme Court Judge.
Orlins became the 15th contestant to be voted off Survivor: Vanuatu despite her competitive attitude and great swimming skills. Originally a member of the all-female tribe, Yasur, Orlins was one of the younger women in the competition, which made her fall prey to the three-person alliance of the remaining male player, Chris, and the two older women players, Scout and Twila. Although Chris told Orlins that she would be spared from his vote, her strong physical and mental abilities lessened the others’ chances of winning the game. Orlins was eliminated after spending 37 days in the island.
Eliza currently resides with her boyfriend Justin in Manhattan. She describes herself as an intense and driven woman who dedicates herself to the political sciences. Eliza returns to reality television as one of the Survivor favorites competing against ten fans on its sixteenth installment, Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites.
