Dustin Hoffman began his acting career in Los Angeles, and later headed to New York to try his luck in theater. His breakout performance was in the 1966 play Eh?, which earned him a Drama Desk Award and a Theatre World Award. The following year he made his film debut, in The Tiger Makes Out.
Hoffman drew more attention for his role in the film The Graduate, while earned him an Oscar nomination. He slowly transitioned from stage to film, appearing in features such as Midnight Cowboy, Lenny and All The President's Men. He earned his first Oscar, as Best Actor, in 1979 for Kramer vs Kramer; he earned a second in 1989 for his portrayal of autistic savant Raymond Babbitt in Rain Man.
Hoffman's later projects include Wag the Dog (which earned him another Oscar nomination), American Buffalo, Runaway Jury, Meet the Fockers and Stranger Than Fiction. He also recently voiced characters in films such as Kung Fu Panda and The Tale of Despereaux.
Hoffman has few television appearances, but he won an Emmy for the television presentation of the play Death of a Salesman in 1986. He recently joined HBO's drama Luck as underworld figure Ace Bernstein.
He is currently married to attorney Lisa Hoffman, with whom he has four children; he has one biological daughter and one adopted daughter from a previous marriage.
