One of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Donatello is the turtle known as the “brains” of the group. His bandanna is known to be purple, and he is the most curious, studious and industrious. He also likes discovering the unknown and can repair just about anything. He is even called the “Mr. Fix-It” among the Turtles. Donatello wields a bo, which is a six foot staff, and is also a practitioner of Ninja Juhakkei. His weapon is said to be the most historically accurate one, because Bojutsu is part of the eighteen disciplines of Ninjutsu.
Donatello is also known as Don, Donny or Don-San, and his favorite things to do include inventing things. He is also fond of mathematics and science, as well as computers. He is seen in films as the most scientific turtle, and the most introspective. He can joke around once in a while, and values his family and friends to a high degree. He prefers to talk things out rather than fight, and even refers to himself as a war pacifist. He has a high level of agility and strength, in addition to having a mastery of stealth, bojutsu and kobudo. He was first portrayed as a less mature character in the live action films, and is seen tinkering with various devices most of the time.
In the 2007 CG-animated TMNT movie, Donatello is seen working as a technical support agent to sustain the family. His character is developed as an older brother of the team, as he confronts Raphael about his night wanderings, and tries to guide Michelangelo from unwelcome ideas about heroes. He is also forced to be the responsible one due to the absence of Leonardo.
Donatello was played by Leif Tilden in the live action 1990 film, and was voiced by Corey Feldman, and briefly by Adam Carl. In TMNT, he was voiced by American actor Mitchell Whitfield.
