Of Croatian and Welsh descent, Richards graduated from El Camino High School in 1989 and went on to become a fashion model. During the early 1990s, she appeared in low-budget films and television shows such as Saved by the Bell. In 1997, she earned her first starring role on Starship Troopers, shortly followed by the cult film Wild Things.
In 1999, Denise Richards was cast opposite Pierce Brosnan in The World is Not Enough. She said she loved the role of the brainy nuclear physicist because it was a change from all the Bond girls in the past. In 2008, however, she was named worst Bond girl of all time by Entertainment Weekly. Richards has likewise appeared in several notable series including Spin City, Two and a Half Men, Friends, and Seinfeld. During the 2000s, she starred in the short-lived UPN series Sex, Love, and Secrets, Valentine, Undercover Brother, and Scary Movie 3.
Denise Richards married actor Charlie Sheen in 2002 and the couple had two daughters, Sam J and Lola. In 2005, however, Richards initiated a divorce proceeding that would later be named as Hollywood’s nastiest divorce. She also filed a restraining order against Sheen, citing his gambling, drug use, addition to internet porn, and violent mood swings. In 2006, she was once again thrust into tabloid limelight for dating Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora, husband of her friend Heather Locklear. As the custody battle continued, as Sheen claimed Richards sent his fianc? an e-mail requesting sperm from Sheen. Richards claimed the e-mail was doctored.
Richard is at the center of the E! reality show Denise Richards: It’s Complicated. It follows the star as she deals with motherhood, romance, and Hollywood, in light of the crazy things happened in her life. Richards also became one of the 13 stars in the eighth season of the ABC dancing competition Dancing with the Stars. She was the second to be eliminated from the show. Since then, she has appeared on films like Finding Bliss and Cougars, Inc. She also adopted a daughter in 2011, naming her Eloise Joni.
