Deidre Ann Hall was born October 31, 1947 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was raised in Lake Worth, Florida. She completed her studies at Los Angeles City College and started her acting career there.
Her first appearance on television is in the soap opera The Young and the Restless. A bigger role was given to her as the superhero Electra Woman in the series Electra Woman and Dyna Girl. She also appeared in Our House in 1986. Hall was married to network executive Steve Sohmer from 1991 to 2005. They became parents through surrogacy, and the story of her childbearing was featured in the autobiographical TV-movie Never Say Never: The Deidre Hall Story, where she played herself. Yet her biggest and most iconic role yet is that of the beautiful Dr. Marlena Evans
in NBC’s long-running soap Days of our Lives.
Throughout her acting career, mostly in television, Hall has amassed a number of awards and nominations from various bodies. She was nominated six times for Best Actress by Soap Opera Digest, winning five times. Recently, she was also nominated as half of one of daytime's Hottest Couples. She has also received three Emmy Award nominations and two People’s Choice Awards nominations, both for Best Actress. In 1994, she has won the prestigious American Women in Radio and Television award.
Deidre Hall has also acted as national spokesperson for various causes and products, such as Hallmark's "To Kids with Love" card line, Dexatrim weight loss products, Exfole Skin Care Products and Baby Genius child development program. In 1996, she launched her own jewelry line, which was very much inspired by her character in Days of our Lives. She has also released a line of limited edition Christmas ornaments, which featured a recording of her reading 'Twas The Night Before Christmas.' Hall lives in Los Angeles with his two sons.
