David Zayas is a Puerto Rican-American television, film and theatre performer who was born in Puerto Rico, yet brought up in the Bronx borough of New York City. Early on his life, he joined up with the United States Air Force. After he was discharged from the armed forces, he turned his talents instead to working for the New York City police department, and slowly developed his skills as a character actor. He has also been a member of the LAByrinth Theatre Company since 1992. Among the productions that Zayas has acted in are Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Numb3rs,
and Without a Trace.
Enrique Morales is portrayed by David Zayas in the HBO prison drama television series Oz. He is one of the most powerful and influential members of the Latino faction in the prison facility, having been sent to jail for killing another man during a fight. Upon arriving in the prison, he takes control as the leader of El Norte by ordering the death of Raoul “El Cid” Hernandez. Morales plays the role of a consummate businessman and often collaborates together with Chucky Pancamo, and devotes his energies toward gaining more political influence and power within Oz.
