Daniel Jay Gokey, popularly known as Danny Gokey is born on April 24, 1980. Danny is one of the finalists of the eighth season of American Idol. He practices his music actively in church, mainly through his work as the music director of a church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Gokey rose to fame through his stint on American Idol, joining through auditions held in Kansas City, Missouri. Viewers first knew him through the cir!$#!#stances surrounding his audition. In weeks before he tried out, his wife Sophia died due to complications from congenital heart surgery, an event which later compelled him to establish a foundation in her name, www.sophiasheart.org. Viewers also knew him for joining the show with his best friend Jamar Rogers—who was later dropped at the end of the Hollywood auditions—and for his soulful voice.
Gokey easily went through the Top 36, and was one of the first three contestants to be selected for the finals.
