From Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire comes designer Christiane King. She began sketching fashions during her teen years, getting more and more interested in the business. A fan of Marchesa and Balenciaga, she used to be a childrenswear designer, a Banana Republic sales associate and even a law office file clerk.
Christiane King eventually decided to put her degree in Fashion Design to good use, having earned an award during her senior year. She was given the Best of Couture honor for her collection at Woodbury University annual gala in 2005.
Inspired by the woman’s body, King thinks her designs are universal and can be easily appreciated. This goofy but ambitious lady has always wanted to show off her designs on television, but waited for the right opportunity. Soon, Christiane found herself on the seventh season of the Project Runway, set in New York. She became one of the 16 designers vying for the top prize and the chance to launch their careers in the fashion industry. She was, unfortunately, the first to be eliminated from the competition. Since then, she continued her career and womenswear designs.
