Born August 18, 1969 in New York, New York, Christian Slater is an actor known for his roles in Heathers, Kuffs, Hollow Man 2, and Interview with the Vampire, and his well-publicized battle with alcohol and drug abuse. The son of a casting executive and an actor, he attended the Dalton School, the Professional Children’s School, and the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
Christian Slater made his Broadway debut in the 1980 revival of The Music Man opposite Dick Van Dyke. Other than this, he also appeared in Copperfield, Merlin, Macbeth, Side Man, and The Glass Menagerie. He made the transition to the big screen in 1985 via The Legend of Billie Jean. Following this are a string of more moderately successful films, such as the mystery The Name of the Rose in 1986, the comedy Heaters in 1989, and the teen flick Pump Up the Volume in 1990. His other screen credits include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, True Romance, Broken Arrow, and Interview with the Vampire as reporter Daniel Molloy. In 2006, he replaced Kevn Bacon in the starring role of Hollow Man 2. Slater returned to stage in 2004 in the play One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at the Edinburgh Fringe, then later in 2007 in another West End production of Swimming with Sharks.
Other than his acting credentials, Christian Slater was involved in a well-publicized bout with alcoholism and drug abuse, plus a series of high-profile relationships. In 1997, he was arrested by Los Angeles Police for assault with a deadly weapon and battery. It was found out that he punched his then-girlfriend Michelle Jonas while drunk and high on heroin. Fending off the police, he yelled “The Germans are coming and they will kill us!” He was sentenced to three months in prison, which was brought down to 59 days for good behavior. In 2003, he was beaten by his wife Ryan Haddon at a Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas, which got him stitches.
