Biography

Film and stage actor Charles Durning was born in Highland Falls, New York on February 28, 1923. Charles, who came from an Irish American Catholic family, became a soldier during World War II. After recuperating from his battle ordeals, Charles went to work in show business, performing for the theater and winning a Tony award for The Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. His prominent film projects include Dog Day Afternoon and Tootsie. His small screen performances bought him four Emmy awards.
 
Michael Gavin is portrayed by Charles Dunning Clarke on FX’s comedy-drama series Rescue Me. Michael is the father of Tommy , and is a former firefighter who is already in his 80s. His age has bought him senility and eccentricity.
