Biography

Award-winning American actress Blair Brown was born on April 23, 1947 in Washington, D.C. A graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, she gained notice as an actress at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Since then, she has had a notable career in film, television and stage.

Brown began appearing for the screen in the early 1970s, making appearances in several television movies and miniseries, as well as guest roles in regular series. One of her notable early television roles is in the miniseries Kennedy, which aired in 1983; she played the role of Jacqueline Kenendy. Her most notable television role, however, was in the comedy series The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, which premiered in 1987. She played the title character: Molly Dodd is a divorced woman whose lifestyle straddles the line between yuppie and bohemian. The series was acclaimed critically, but only received moderate success in the ratings; nevertheless it ran for five years. Her next regular television role came in 2008, when she got a role in the science fiction series Fringe.

Brown has also appeared in several films, making her debut in the film adaptation to the novel The Paper Chase in 1973. Four years later, she got her first film starring role, appearing in The Choirboys. Her other notable films include Altered States, One Trick Pony, Stealing Home, The Sentinel and her most high-profile film, Continental Divide, where she played the love interest to John Belushi.

Brown has, however, received more acclaim for her stage roles. After playing roles in small productions, she made her Broadway debut in 1989, in the play Secret Rapture. She returned to the stage after The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd’s run ended; she appeared in numerous productions, eventually earning a Tony award for her performance in the play Copenhagen in 2000.

Brown is also a notable voice talent, having provided the narration for several audiobooks and television do!$#!#entaries, including several editions of American Experience for PBS.
