Ben Barnes is an English actor best known for his appearance in the television series Doctors and Split Decision, and in the films Stardust, Bigga than Ben, and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The son of a psychiatriast father and a therapist mother, Ben Barnes was born on August 20, 1981 in London, England. He attended King’s College School, where he was a contemporary of Khalid Abdalla and Tom Basden. In college, Ben Barnes entered Kingston University in London, where he studied Drama and English Literature.
Ben Barnes is one of the few actors to be photographed by renowned photographer, Claire Newman-Williams, along with actors Alison Doody, Thomas James Longley, and Adam Garcia. He started working in television in 2006. He made his film debut in the 2007 film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel Stardust, playing the young Dunstan Thorn, whose future son, Tristan Thorn finds a fallen star which transforms into the beautiful Yvaine. He also starred in the film Bigga Than Ben directed by Suzie Halewood. In 1997, Barnes joined the National Youth Music Theatre and was an active member until 2003.
Barnes also starred as Prince Caspian in the 2008 fantasy film The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. According to the novel Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia, from which the film is adapted, Prince Caspian is the true king of Narnia. He reappears as King Caspian in the two subsequent book series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair.
According to Barnes, he based the accent of Prince Caspian on that of Inigo Montoya from Princess Bride.
He also portrayed John Whittaker in the social comedy film Easy Virtue and appeared in latest version of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oliver Parker.
Barnes also appeared in the television series 9am with David & Kim, Today, Sunrise, and The Sauce and was a frequent guest on the shows, Entertainment Tonight, Total Request Live, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
