Biography

Bradley Darryl Wong is a Tony Award-winning performer and actor who was born on October 24, 1960 in San Francisco, California. The son of a telephone company supervisor, he was brought up in a family of Chinese-American descent. Wong studied at Lincoln High School before going on to pursue higher learning at San Francisco State University, choosing to pursue an acting career after he graduated. He is openly gay and has been known to be involved with talent agent Richie Jackson. The two of them have a son named Foo, who was born through a surrogate mother.

B.D. Wong gained much attention for his Broadway debut, M. Butterfly, winning him several awards. He is noted for being the only actor to receive honors from the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award,[2] Outer Critics Circle Award, Clarence Derwent Award, and Theatre World Award, all for the same performance. His earlier film career has been marked with movies such as Family Business, a crime comedy starring Sean Connery, and several made-for-TV productions. Wong was able to work with Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick in Andrew Bergman’s The Freshman, before he landed notable roles in Mystery Date, Father of the Bride and 1993’s Jurassic Park. He was next seen on television, landing roles in ABC Afterschool Specials and the series All-American Girl. He was soon cast in episodes of The X Files and Chicago Hope, and voiced a !$#!#roach in the film Joe’s Apartment. He also became known for his voicework on the character Captain Shang on the hit 1998 Disney film Mulan. Wong also became known for his portrayal of the character Father Ray Mukada on the HBO prison drama series Oz. He was subsequently cast as Dr. George Huang in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2002, he made an appearance on the thriller The Salton Sea, alongside Val Kilmer, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Adam Goldberg.
