Austin Carty Biography:

Born on April 29, 1981 in High Point, North Carolina, Austin Carty is an established writer whose first novel, Somewhere Beyond Here, was published in 2003. He spent three years at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he majored in speech communications and public speaking. After he finished school, he decided to model for various print and commercial ads as a way of increasing his income. His job history includes working in retail and as a waiter and bartender. Besides playing soccer, Carty enjoys writing, reading, playing guitar and piano. He describes himself as charismatic, humorous and genuine. Carty's hero is his grandfather. He says if he can one day secure half of his grandfather's faith and integrity, he'll consider his life a success.

As a cast member of Survivor: Panama-Exile Island, Carty believed that his athleticism, strength and intelligence would help him become the Sole Survivor. He was originally a member of the Viveros tribe, but because the tribe assignments were changed after the first elimination, Carty was transferred to the La Mina tribe. Later on, the two tribes became one and was named, Gitanos. Carty became the eighth contestant voted off the Island when he failed to gain the trust of the other tribe members.
