Growing up in Richardson, Texas, Simpson is the daughter of a former youth minister turned manager. From 2002 to 2004, meanwhile, she had a recurring role, 39 seasons all in all, in the drama series 7th Heaven. She eventually signed a record deal with Geffen Records which resulted to her debut album Autobiography. At about the same time, she occasionally appeared on the reality show of sister Jessica, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. This led to her own MTV reality show called The Ashlee Simpson Show, which ran for eight weekly episodes over the summer of 2004. Autobiography debuted at the number one spot in the US, reaching triple platinum status in September. In 2009, she was cast as Violet Foster in the modern reboot of the 90s series Melrose Place.
