Biography

Anthony LaPaglia was born on January 31, 1959. This Australian actor completely lost his Australian accent after moving to America. He starred in numerous films including Happy Hour, Empire Records, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Cold Steel, Happy Feet, Lantana, The Guys and The Architect. This versatile actor even won a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of Jack Malone in the television series Without a Trace as well as an Emmy for his guest role as Daphne's brother on Frazier.

Jack Malone is the lead agent specializing in missing persons cases for the New York City FBI. Previously, he had an affair with a subordinate, Agent Samantha Spade , which he never really got over. Later, Maria leaves him and gains custody over their daughters. Eventually, Jack rekindles his relationship with Samantha, once he is single. They both discover that they never stopped loving each other and romance blossoms.

Although often cast as New York tough guys, few people know that he was actually born and raised in Australia. He has said that the only internationally successful Australian actor at the time he began acting was Mel Gibson, who had lost his Australian accent, so he did the same. Today, looking at all the hot young Australian actors who have kept their native accents but can use other dialects in their films, he says he regrets having dropped his accent.

Won Broadway's 1998 Tony Award as Best Actor (Play) for a revival of Arthur Miller's "A View from the Bridge."

He is part owner of an Australian Soccer club called Sydney FC (Football Club)

Brother-in-law of Zoe Carides, Ursula Brooks and Danielle Carides.

Was the original choice to play Tony Soprano in the HBO series "The Sopranos" (1999) but turned the role down.

Starred with Debi Mazar in So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993) as a love interest, then again in Empire Records (1995) as a love interest yet again.

Plays in goal for Hollywood United Football Team.

Son of Maria LaPaglia (secretary) and Eddie LaPaglia (auto mechanic).
