Alvaro is featured as one of the members of the cast in the VH1 reality television series The Pickup Artist. He is 23 years old, and works as a video game programmer. He has described himself as a dreamer, who unfortunately needs to at least be drunk in order to have the guts to meet women. According to him, when he is completely sober, he finds himself freezing up and unable to say anything interesting at all to any females he meets. He claimed that the only way he was able to go on dates in the past was when things were turned the other way around, when he was the one approached by women instead.
He blames several specific misfortunes for holding him back and stunting his confidence. He was lacking in height when he was young, and he even still thinks of himself as short, even when he isn’t anymore. There have also been occasions where he talked himself out of potentially fruitful situations involving women, simply because he was unable to get a grip on his anxiety and just could not stop talking. He also has a habit of biting his nails, covering his mouth, and stuttering uncontrollably when he meets members of the opposite sex, who simply seem to intimidate him.
