Alphonso Wesson is one of the contestants appearing on the TV Guide network’s new reality television series, America’s Next Producer. Born on July 14, 1966, he studied at the University of Public Library and Cinema, and has lived in various places such as Chicago, Cincinnati, and Mississippi. His favorite genres to work with are action, drama, reality features, and sitcoms, though he says he dislikes mediocre people in both high and low places throughout the industry. Alphonso also says that as a producer, he loves to make something from nothing, and that every aspiring producer and industry newcomer should start as a production assistant and work their way up.
His must-have production tool is a cell phone, and he says that successful producers learn from their mentors as models for success. Alphonso enjoyed the film The Pursuit of Happyness, as well as HBO’s Emmy Award-winning series Entourage
, and he remains proud of his own previous project titled Open the Sky. His favorite director is Michael Bay and his favorite actor is Russell Crowe, while he considers Jerry Bruckheimer innovative for the ability to work successfully across several different platforms. Alphonso believes that Brian Grazer is the top producer today, though he’d also love the chance to work with Steven Spielberg.
