Aidan Gillen began his career on stage, appearing as a teenager at the Dublin Youth Theatre before moving to London. There, he appeared in several stage productions, and also played roles on screen.
Gillen rose to prominence with the Channel 4 series Queer as Folk, as gay advertising executive Stuart Jones. His stint in the TV movie Queer as Folk 2 led to a BAFTA TV Award nomination in 2000. His next major role was in the HBO series The Wire, appearing as ambitious politician Tommy Carcetti. Gillen also earned a Tony nomination for his stint in the 2003 Broadway play The Caretaker.
Gillen also appeared in films such as 12 Rounds (alongside John Cena) and Shanghai Knights. He currently stars in the HBO series Game of Thrones. He is married to Olivia O'Flanagan, with whom he has two children.
