Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) is a cancer specialist. He serves as the head of oncology for Princeton-Plainsboro Hospital on the television show "House." Wilson is the best friend of Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), even though House often pushes Wilson's buttons. Often he is House's moral compass, and this is never more prevalent than when House needs advice. Dr. Wilson is thoughtful, passionate, and compassionate. He came to work for Princeton-Plainsboro after he found that House was working there. They were both friends before working together, and House notified Wilson of the job opening before the opening was actually published. He also serves as a barrier between House and Dr. Lisa Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein), his boss.
Wilson has had his fair share of relationships. In Season 4, he started dating Amber Volakis (Anne Dudek), also known as the Cut-Throat-Bitch (CTB). Amber was one of House's recent hires and Wilson started dating her after House fired her. After she died while coming to the aid of House, Wilson broke off his friendship with him. He later reconciled with House during House's father's funeral. Wilson has symptoms of clinical depression due to dealing with his girlfriend's death. While he did not blame himself for Amber's death, he blamed House and his relationship with House. Wilson mourned Amber's death much more than he had for the loss of his previous relationships. He had been married three times before to Sam (Cynthia Watros), Bonnie, and Julie. He cheated on all of his wives at least once, but did tell each of them. Wilson even once cheated on one of his wives with a terminally ill patient. He is currently dating Sam, his first wife. Sam works as a radiologist at the hospital.
Wilson is known to enable House by allowing him to pull off all his crazy antics. He also lied for House when Detective Tritter (David Morse) wanted to know about House's forged prescriptions. Wilson also voted against firing House for his actions in Season 2. Wilson does have a dry sense of humor. When House hired a private detective to spy on him, he had him plant drug paraphernalia in his garbage and hired a prostitute for a short visit. He successfully pulled this prank on House and House respected him for it. Wilson and House's relationship is the subject of a long running gag on the series, with House claiming he is gay to rile Wilson up. The two make for a close relationship that offers many touching moments.
"So all you have to do is convince this kid that his girlfriend had a secret doctor, and a secret stash, and a secret life. It's been a while since a patient took a swing at you. Can I watch?"
"Giving him a computer is like giving plutonium to Dr. No."
"I hear Cuddy's SEAL training finally came in handy. Should I be investing in a flak jacket?"
"If you could think of everything yourself, you wouldn't need a team to annoy."
