Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) is an attending surgeon and the head of pediatric medicine on the television series "Grey's Anatomy." Arizona has a quirky personality and likes to dress in ways that appeal to the children she treats on a daily basis, including roller shoes and a Holly Hobby surgical cap. Initially disliked by Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson), she earns her respect which leads to Dr. Bailey wanting to pursue a specialty in pediatric surgery.
After arriving at Seattle Grace Hospital, Arizona quickly develops feelings for Dr. Callie Torres (Sarah Ramirez) and kisses her. Callie asks her out, but Arizona declines due to her inexperience with dating women. She eventually relents and agrees to a date. The two begin dating shortly after.
Callie's father learns of the relationship and is not happy about it. He demands that she end the relationship and return home or he will cut off his financial support of her. She refuses both demands and stays in Seattle with Arizona. The financial strain puts a burden on their relationship and they nearly break up. Arizona assists her financially and they finally consummate their relationship.
When Callie's father returns to Seattle, Arizona speaks with him and convinces him that their relationship is not as bad as he thinks and to accept his daughter as she is, which he begins to do.
Arizona does not want children and Callie does, which causes a great deal of tension. This ends their relationship, however, during the shootings at the hospital, they find each other and decide they want to be with each other and have children.

"Oh, really, really, really? I'm supposed to change for you? Why, because we're in love? I mean, because you fall in love all the time... men, women..."
