Born on January 25 in Cuba, George Alvarez completed his education at Parsons School of Design where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He moved on to bartend at New York's Studio 54, where he decided to pursue an acting career. There, he developed his interests and tried to audition for roles. He was later discovered at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York, when he showed up for a casting call.
In 1991, George Alvarez landed a guest role in the series Beverly Hills, 900210. This was followed by a part in the 1992 comedy, Class Act. Directed by Randall Miller, the film also starred Christopher Reid, Christopher Martin, Loretta Devine, and Mariann Aalda. Alvarez’s next roles were on several daytime soap operas. He got a part on ABC’s Port Charles, as well as in its spin-off General Hospital. In 1999, he was nominated for an ALMA Award for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Soap Opera because of his work in Port Charles.
He was also seen on several episodes of CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful. After a small role in NYPD Blue, he was seen on the romance film Heavy, starring Liv Tyler. Subsequently, he worked on several TV productions. In 1995 he was seen on Op Center, Cagney & Lacey: Together Again, and The West Side Waltz. Next came roles in 1996’s Innocent Victims and Pacific Blue.
George Alvarez was soon cast in the thriller A Bold Affair, directed by Rick Jacobson. Afterwards, he landed a part in six episodes of Miracle’s Boys, portraying the character Discipio. He soon joined the cast of the CBS soap opera, Guiding Light. His character was that of Ray Santos, a good man who was raised by a family of criminals. This gave the actor the opportunity to work alongside Murray Bartlett, Mandy Bruno, Crystal Chappell and Justin Deas.
