Astrid Farnsworth (Jaskia Nicole) is a bright junior agent with the FBI, and assists the Fringe Division with a variety of tasks. She is an expert in several fields, including linguistics, encryption, and computer science, and also serves as an administrative assistant in Dr. Bishop's (John Noble) lab. Her relationship with the other team members involves listening to their problems or concerns without judgment, and helping them work through their thoughts. When Olivia (Anna Torv) expresses her regret in misjudging John Scott (Mark Valley) in the pilot episode, Astrid assures Olivia that she is a good judge of character. When Peter (Joshua Jackson) goes missing after he finds out about his true origins, she helps Walter at home while keeping watch over his well-being. She has unwittingly become Walter's caretaker, but does not seem to mind the extra responsibilities. This is despite Walter constantly mistaking her name for something else, such as "Astro, " "Asterisk, " and "Ostrich."
Astrid's personal life is not explored in the series as much of her daily activities take place in the lab. In addition to helping Walter with his experiments, she has also begrudgingly assisted him in making taffy, and taking care of the lab's cow, Gene. In the end, she always gives in to Walter's requests, as she is never certain what his true intentions are. She also seems to care deeply for all of the team's members.
"My mother always says I stick my nose in places it does not belong. I know we haven't known each other that long, But you are one of the best judges of character I've ever met." - Astrid to Olivia, regarding John Scott's secret identity
"I am not brushing a cow's teeth, Walter. You know I have real work to do … right?"
