Tami Taylor (Connie Britton) from "Friday Night Lights" is the wife of Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler), coach of the Dillon Panthers, the football team in Dillon, Texas. Tami is also the mother of Julie Taylor (Aimee Teegarden) who begins the show as a freshman at Dillon High School. Eric's career is based on whether they get to the state championship. If they lose, he knows that he and his family, Tami and Julie, will no longer be welcome in Dillon. This puts a great deal of pressure on the family.
Tami takes a job as a guidance counselor at Dillon High. She frequently acts as the voice of reason and opposition to her husband and the students she works with. At first, Tami does not approve of Julie's relationship with Tyra Collette (Adrianne Palicki), the town vixen. Later, she feels guilty about treating Tyra badly so she eventually accepts their friendship. Tami takes Tyra under her wing and becomes her mentor. She advises Tyra on how to succeed in life and the importance of going to college.
When Julie and quarterback Matt Saracen (Zach Gilford) start dating, Tami is more reasonable than Eric, but expresses disapproval at Julie starting a sexual relationship at her young age. When Eric receives a coveted coaching job at a university, Tami finds it hard to decide whether the family should stay or go. At first, she is excited to move to Austin, but realizes she does not want to leave Dillon, for it has become her home. She also finds out that she is pregnant with their second child, Grace (unknown). Tami decides that the family should stay in Dillon while Eric moves to Austin so she can continue to help the students of Dillon High deal with their issues.
Tami gives birth to a baby girl. The new baby increases the tension in the family and Julie rebels. Tami starts a close relationship with the replacement guidance counselor. When the football team has problems with the new coach, Eric decides to return to Dillon. Julie becomes even more rebellious and ends her relationship with Matt and begins dating an older man, "The Swede." Julie also becomes close to a teacher, a relationship which Tami finds extremely inappropriate.
Tami gets promoted to Principal of Dillon High. Later, the community demands an apology from her regarding an abortion incident. She decides to resign from being the principal to take on the position of guidance counselor at a different school, East Dillon High.
Tami Taylor was named by Slate magazine as one of the reasons they were looking forward to "Friday Night Lights" in the 2007-2008 season.
