Australian actress Frances O’Connor was born on June 12, 1967 in Oxfordshire, England. She moved with her parents to their native Perth, Australia, where she eventually studied at Mercedes College. She eventually attended the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, and graduated with a literature degree from Curtin University of Technology in Perth.
She began her acting career in 1993, appearing in the Australian drama series Law of the Land. She starred in the program only in its first season, and later left to pursue other opportunities. She made her name through guest appearances in other Australian shows, as well as in films such as Bathing Boxes, Love and Other Catastrophes, Kiss or Kill (which earned her an award from the Film Critics Circle of Australia in 1998), Thank God He Met Lizzie and A Little Bit of Soul.
O’Connor later established her career in America, appearing in films such as Bedazzled, AI: Artificial Intelligence and The Importance of Being Earnest. She appeared in other films, such as Piccadilly Jim, Windtalkers, Book of Love and The Lazarus Child. In 2007, she made her first regular television role, debuting in the dramedy series Cashmere Mafia. She played the role of Zoe Burden, a former executive at a big company who deals with her glamorous career and her personal life. The series was cancelled after its 13-episode run.
