8 Possible Future CW Shows

While the CW only has eight shows on TV right now, the network is working hard to find the next popular series by developing shows for pilot season. Traditionally, networks start out with a large number of shows in development, then some will get made into pilots, then the network will choose some of those to add to its schedule for Fall 2010.

Right now, the CW has at least eight very interesting projects in development, one of which could be the next Vampire Diaries or the next Gossip Girl. Which one will it be? Check out the initial descriptions to pick your favorite.

Kristen Bell Still Wants to Appear on 'Gossip Girl'

Kristen Bell has provided the voice of Gossip Girl since the beginning of the CW teen drama, and so far, she's been doing a fabulous job meddling in the lives of our favorite Upper East Siders. In the future, however, the 29-year-old actress wants to step in front of the cameras ---even just for a brief cameo.

"I want to make a cameo and shoot it right down the middle," Bell said slyly with a wink and a smile Tuesday night as she was leaving Cosmopolitan magazine's annual Fun Fearless Female dinner at the W Hotel in Los Angeles.

San Diego Comic-Con 2009 Saturday Schedule

The Saturday and Sunday Comic-Con schedules were released over the weekend. I thought things would get really good on Saturday, but the list is less than impressive. I suppose with four full days of Comic-Con, you can spread out the really big panels. Once again, below is a list of our picks for the day. One thing I'm curious about is the Chuck panel. Why is it at 10am? Doesn't Chuck deserve one of the better time slots? Wouldn't NBC push for a better panel time? Chuck already had some struggles last season, but this season promises to kick-ass and the new kung fu twist is perfect for the Comic-Con fans. I stand perplexed. Either way, it looks like I'll be spending my morning with a donut, cup of coffee and my favorite show Chuck.

Comic-Con this year is going to be huge. I mean huge. More TV shows and movies are premiering than ever before. After Twilight's huge success last year, marketers are starting to take notice. Comic-Con equals an intense fan base and everyone knows how help die-hard fans are.

The people over at San Diego Comic-Con headquarters just released Thursday's schedule. There's a lot going on down there this year, so if you want to see the whole list, head to the official site. Below are our picks for the must haves:

When done right, karaoke can be an art unto itself, combining great singing with glorious stage presence. When done wrong, as it is most of the time, it's painful and annoying. Veronica Mars Alumns Reunite For Party Down Tonight

The Veronica Mars team is back together tonight when a new series premieres on the Starz network. Party Down is a sitcom created by Mars' executive producer Rob Thomas. The series follows six wanna-be actors in Hollywood trying to start their careers while working for a catering company. Each episode takes place at a different catered event - a senior singles mixer, a video porn awards after-party, an out of control sweet 16 party.

Now being a “shipper” is a very serious thing. I mean, as your characters fall in love, you do too. 2008 was full of great television relationships. We had to narrow it down to a lucky 20 for BuddyTV users to choose from.

Any shipper fanatic knows their “ship” inside and out. I, for one, will always be a LoVe shipper. That is - Logan and Veronica of Veronica Mars. 2008 saw the development of new ships, the crumble of others, and the long lasting tension of our older ships. Overall, it's been a great year for most shippers.

The competition will be fierce as there are a lot of fans out there. When we did our “Which One Tree Hill Couple is Best” showdown, Brook and Lucas pulled out the win from underneath Leyton and Naley fans. MiSa (Michael and Sara from Prison Break) fans have been known to be a powerful force.

'Moonlight' Stars Head to HBO

Jason Dohring and Shannyn Sossamon are about to return to the small screen. After playing Josef Kostan and Coraline Duvall on the vampire series Moonlight respectively, the former co-stars are now headed to HBO to work on separate projects.

Dohring, who first catapulted to stardom as rich kid Logan Echolls, Kristen Bell's on-screen love interest on the cult series Veronica Mars, has joined the cast of Washingtonienne, the cable's pilot from Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker. Loosely based on Jessica Cutler's book, the comedy follows the professional and personal lives of three young women working on the Hill.

Veronica Mars Creator Ready to 'Party Down'

While all the buzz on Veronica Mars has died down and leave us with a clear vision to start over again, fans are still following any new endeavors from creator Rob Thomas. Coincidentally, the man behind the hit television series is coming back to work with another endeavor backed by Starz Entertainment. Titled Party Down, the show consists of ten half-hour episodes which Thomas has created and produced along with John Enbom, Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge.

Party Down revolves around a group of aspiring Hollywood artists working for a Los Angeles catering company to pay their bills while they try to reach their dreams of becoming celebrities. Each episode will follow them as they try to fit into the party scenes of a senior singles mixer, a porn awards after-party and a sweet 16 party gone awry, among other things.

The WB is Resurrected Online

I love the CW for bringing me Gossip Girl and for having the guts to resurrect 90210, but there's no denying that the network pales in comparison to the glory days of the WB. For those of us who were teenagers in the '90s the WB was a truly special network. They brought us such classic shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dawson's Creek, Gilmore Girls and Felicity, and such charmingly forgettable fare as Blue Collar TV, The Mountain, Tarzan and Black Sash. It's hard not to feel affection for that bygone era, even if it did produce atrocities like 7th Heaven.

The WB may no longer exist on television, but it's currently enjoying a resurrection on the Internet. TheWB.com launched yesterday and features full episodes of many of the shows mentioned above, as well as games, a blog, desktop wallpapers and some original web series.

'Veronica Mars' Lends Her Voice to Animated Feature Film

Veronica Mars actress Kristen Bell is set to play a vocal role in the upcoming animated feature film presentation by Warner Bros., Astro Boy. The film is directed by David Bowers and is based on the classic Osamu Tezuka comic series, which began as a Japanese manga and later was drawn into a cartoon in the early ‘60s. It was then recreated in the ‘80s and most recently, in 2003.

The main character is a robot boy who was created by a professor in memory of his dead son. The story is set in the futuristic Metro City, where humans and robots peacefully co-exist.

'Veronica Mars' Movie Still Under Discussion

Veronica Mars may be gone, but it's certainly not forgotten. In fact, the cult series has maintained a solid fan base ever since the CW decided to pull the plug on it after three critically acclaimed seasons. While series creator Rob Thomas has often stated his interest in tying up loose ends by turning Veronica Mars into a feature film, discussions about the project have never materialized. More than a year after the show was officially canceled, however, Thomas hasn't given up on the idea. The creator recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello that he'd love to move forward with the film, but his busy schedule doesn't give him much time to think about it.

Heroes: A 'Veronica Mars' Reunion?

Casting has been rampant for the new season of Heroes as the show prepares to pack the screen with new foes for the heroes to face in Volume 3: Villains. Most recently it was announced that Babylon 5 actor Bruce Boxleitner is joining the show, likely as a politician, while Friday Night Lights actress Brea Grant has come on to play a speedy bad girl named Daphne. Both characters are expected to be villainous.

Also added to the line-up of villains: Veronica Mars actor Francis Capra, who was announced today to be joining Heroes in its third season.

The CW Plans 'Beverly Hills 90210' Spin-Off

When I think of Beverly Hills 90210, I tend to picture mullets, sideburns, "Donna Martin Graduates," and 45-year-olds playing high schoolers. One thing I most definitely do not think of is the late, great teen noir show Veronica Mars. However, the executives at the CW must find the two shows similar, because they've recently hired Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas to help develop a brand new 90210 spin-off. Thomas will write the pilot episode of the series, which will have only a tenuous connection to the original teen soap. Now that more details have come out about the CW's update of the drama, it's starting to feel like 1992 all over again.

Veronica Mars is smarter than me. It's true. She is. And that is why I must place Veronica Mars near the top of my list of best shows of 2007.

The year 2007 brought us the second of the third-season mini-mystery arcs on Veronica Mars, this one involving the murder of Dean Cyrus O'Dell (guest star Ed Begley, Jr.). Though not as meticulous or satisfying as the amazing 22-episode-long mystery of who killed Lilly Kane (Amanda Seyfried) in the first season, Dean O'Dell was still a sympathetic enough character to make the mystery of his death compelling.

Sheriff Don Lamb (Michael Muhney) was one of the unsung heroes on that gem of a teenage noir series Veronica Mars. 'Veronica Mars' Sheriff Busy as Ever

Michael Muhney, best remembered as Sheriff Don Lamb on the cancelled Veronica Mars, certainly has his hands full with several key projects both on the big and small screens. Most recently, he just signed on to play one of the leads in a new Lifetime series. Muhney joins veteran actors Beau Bridges and Anne Archer on the legal drama, Family Practice.

Family Practice is a new pilot from Sony Pictures TV and Jeffrey Lieber, co-creator of the highly popular Lost.

Fate of 'Veronica Mars' Flick Still Up in the Air

Due to the sudden cancellation of Veronica Mars after three seasons, many of its avid followers were left hanging with numerous questions surrounding the fate of the show's characters. The third season finale was never meant to close out the series. As such, the possibility of a Veronica Mars film remains a big deal for the show's loyal fan base.

Hopes of the Veronica Mars faithful were dashed though, when series lead, Kristen Bell stated unequivocally last month that a film project wasn't likely to happen.

The CW Executive Dawn Ostroff Does Not Regret Cancelling 'Veronica Mars'

Many are still sorely disappointed that the CW decided to pull Veronica Mars off the air. However, the network's Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff has moved on, telling reporters during the TCA summer press tour that she does not regret canceling the teen drama series, which starred Kristen Bell as a skilled teen detective.

“I can honestly sit here and say I can not look back and have any regrets [about canceling it],” Ostroff said. “I feel that we gave Veronica Mars every chance and as many of you here know, there was no stronger champion of that show than me. We gave it a better time slot to follow up every single year that it was on the air. And eventually, we just had to say how much longer do we go on without the show really catching on?”

Third and Final Season DVD of 'Veronica Mars' Coming Out This Fall

The critically-acclaimed series, Veronica Mars, was officially cancelled last month, despite a save-the-show campaign that involved thousands of Mars Candy Bars being sent to the CW network. Creator Rob Thomas offered a glimmer of hope to fans by announcing his plans to make a feature film that would bring closure to the things left hanging in the series finale.

Since then, no other major details have been released regarding the possible Veronica Mars film, but fans can catch Thomas on the third season DVD talking about a new direction for the beloved series.
